The Microsoft Imagine Cup 2026 IDEATHON – Kathmandu was more than an event for us — it was a shared journey filled with learning, collaboration, and inspiring young minds eager to turn ideas into meaningful solutions.
Being part of this initiative as co-organizers, hosts, mentors, and speakers, we had the opportunity to contribute not only through planning and coordination, but also by directly engaging with participants, guiding their thinking, and supporting their growth throughout the ideathon.
About the IDEATHON
The Imagine Cup IDEATHON is designed to help students move from ideas to impact. It encourages participants to explore real-world problems, think critically, and shape solutions using modern technology.
The Kathmandu edition focused on:
- Problem-first and impact-driven thinking
- Innovation rooted in real-world challenges
- Collaboration and teamwork
- Exposure to Microsoft technologies
- Learning through mentorship and feedback
The energy, curiosity, and openness of the participants made the experience truly special.
Our Role in the Event
🧩 Co-Organizers
As part of the organizing team, we worked behind the scenes to plan the agenda, coordinate sessions, and ensure the event flowed smoothly. Seeing everything come together on the day of the IDEATHON was both rewarding and motivating.
🎙️ Hosts & Anchors
We also had the opportunity to host and anchor the event — welcoming participants, setting the tone, introducing sessions, and keeping the program engaging from start to finish. Hosting allowed us to connect directly with the audience and create an inclusive, energetic environment.
Mentorship: Guiding Ideas Toward Clarity
One of the most meaningful aspects of the IDEATHON was mentoring participants during their ideation journey. Together, we worked closely with teams to help them:
- Identify meaningful, real-world problems
- Turn raw ideas into clear and structured problem statements
- Think from a user-centric and impact-focused perspective
- Evaluate feasibility, innovation, and scalability
- Strengthen their storytelling and presentation approach
Watching participants gain confidence and clarity as their ideas evolved was one of the most rewarding parts of the experience.
Ideathon Session by Satya
A key highlight of the event was the Ideathon session led by Satya, which provided participants with a strong foundation on how to approach ideation effectively.
During this session, Satya shared insights on:
- How to identify the right problems to solve
- Structuring ideas logically and meaningfully
- Assessing innovation, feasibility, and impact
- Preparing ideas for presentation and further development
This session played an important role in helping teams move from abstract thinking to actionable concepts.
Azure AI Session: Building Intelligent Solutions
We also delivered a dedicated session on Azure AI, where we explored how students and developers can begin leveraging Microsoft’s AI ecosystem to build intelligent, scalable solutions.
Topics included:
- The role of AI in modern software development
- Overview of Azure AI services and capabilities
- Practical use cases for student projects and early-stage startups
- How AI accelerates innovation and decision-making
- Responsible and practical ways to get started with Azure AI
The questions and engagement during this session reflected a strong curiosity and excitement around AI-driven development.
